Senior Systems Engineer

The Message Systems engineering team is looking for a highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer to help us extend the most advanced digital-messaging platform on the market. Role

We are looking for a highly motivated, best-in-class Network Support Engineer to run our network centers located in Columbia, MD and Seattle, Washington and drive the stability and sustainability of our networks and discover innovative ways to automate and scale our network as we expand.

The ideal candidate will be expected to provide high quality first-tier network and network event management for Message Systems corporate, quality assurance and development network operations. They will demonstrate an excellent knowledge of networking and networking concepts and theory, and have experience participating in operational network support for a high performance enterprise environment. They will have a proven track record of success in driving complex issues to resolution autonomously and/or collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of a compact, best-in-class server and network solution in support of corporate, engineering and support physical and virtual systems and networks.
  • Work closely with our Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and software products with a keen focus on helping us monitor, troubleshoot and solve network performance issues during product performance test cycles.
  • Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.
  • Drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.
  • Create and review documentation and process regarding recurring network performance issues and develop a monitoring and mitigation strategy to correction.
  • Automate select network administration tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and tools Provide critical network operations support for corporate, quality assurance and development networks.

Required Skills

  • Bachelors of Science in Network Management with 5+ years of related work experience or 8+ years of relevant work experience with enterprise network engineering.
  • Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous, very detail oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and has significant experience of supporting large scale, high performance enterprise networks.
  • Excellent network implementation and troubleshooting skills combined with proven documentation methodology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact efficiently with peers and customers.
  • The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
  • Deep knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures.
  • Significant past experience with the following protocols and concepts: TCP/IP, TCP/IP v4 and v6 Flow control, UDP, HSRP/VRRP/GLBP, DNS, ARP, HTTP, SSL, STP, Trunking, & Port Channeling, IPsec and TLS.
  • In depth experience on Cisco IOS and Cisco hardware platforms Experience working in virtualised enterprise networking environments.
  • Excellent analytical and network problem determination skills.
  • Strong Linux/Unix admin skills including in-depth experience with Solaris and Solaris SPARC systems.

Preferred Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with major Internet routing protocols, BGP, OSPF.
  • Excellent Ethernet and IP networking knowledge and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols.
  • Substantial background in large-scale network implementation and support.
  • Scripting skills are highly desired - specifically Perl, or shell (bash, ksh, csh).
  • Knowledge or awareness of IT best practice frameworks (ITIL, COBIT) and Operational Excellence concepts or methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience using VMWare or other virtualization technology.
  • Experience with RHEL/Centos kickstart and Solaris jumpstart a plus.
  • Familiarity with OpenSource contributions to Linux/Solaris/BSD or similar software packaging distributions.
