Senior Systems Engineer

Message Systems is looking for a strong candidate to join our Support team in Seattle. Focusing heavily on the e-mail industry, we build and support a suite of software that powers some of the largest legitimate senders and receivers of e-mail in the world.

This role involves working with engineering and operational staff at large carriers and enterprises to resolve questions and issues they have with our mail server products.

Responsibilities

• Answer client configuration questions.
• Assist with customer integrations.
• Provide complete remote MTA administration services including installation, configuration, maintenance, disaster recovery.
• SLA compliance.
• Interact with the engineering team to resolve problems with the products.
• On-call rotation; we offer 24x7x365 priority 1 (system down) support. Must be willing to be a part of a rotation to support such coverage.

Required Technical & Business Skills

• 1-3 years experience with enterprise or carrier class e-mail infrastructure.
• 1-3 years experience with sendmail, postfix, exim or qmail; must be able to install, configure and maintain one or more of these and other MTAs on Solaris and Linux.
• Thorough knowledge of SMTP.
• Quick and independent problem-solving ability.
• Attention to detail and exceptional follow-up skills.
• Passionate customer focus.
• Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous support issues.

Desired Skills

• Shell scripting.
• Knowledge of POP, IMAP, LDAP, LMTP.
• C, C++, Java and other web-related technologies (HTTP, HTML, web servers).
• RDBMS knowledge.
